Queen wasp

Queen wasp macro (3), originally uploaded by tmv_media.

I went down to Devon at the weekend, to East Prawle. It's a great location.

I stayed at Windfall Cottage, which is a brilliant house to rent. http://www.windfallcottage.co.uk/

Whilst in the garden there, I was out by the firepit. On one of the benches was a queen wasp. So a quick lens change later and I grabbed this shot, and a few others.

It's a bit early for her to be out, so she was rather slow, giving me the confidence to stick a 100mm macro lens up close.

Live King Crab - Skarsvåg, Nordkapp, Finnmark, Norway

Before going to Norway my only experiences with crab were what I had eaten elsewhere. I hadn't had king crab, nor had I ever seen one alive, up close.

They're fairly impressive creatures and surprisingly mobile on land.

However the best bit about them is their taste. All I got was white sweet crab meat. was killed, cooked and served with bread, lemon and garlic mayo. Delicious

Wondering where Skarsvåg is? It's the most northerly place I have every slept.

Just a couple of reindeer shots from my travels, firstly this one from Skarsvåg.

Oystercatchers at Ørsvågvær, Vågan, Norway

Continuing on from the below, the Lofoten islands...

Lots of oystercatchers.

I particularly like this shot.

Stø, Nordland, Norway

It would seem that I started this page after retrurning from my trip north of the Arctic Circle.

I went there in the summer of 2010 and witnessed 24hr daylight for just over 2 weeks.

Of all the places we went, I think Stø was my favourite.

It's a small place on the edge of the Vesterålen islands off the coast of northern Norway.

Its main revenue comes from salt cod, or stockfish as it is also known. However it is also the location of Arctic Whale Tours.

I was only there for a couple of days before we moved down to the Lofoten islands.
